On October 25th , I was invited by Sandra Lopes from Refood Barreiro to lead her Volunteer Meeting , a moment of sharing, fun, and reflection on the power of improvisation inside (and outside) the rehearsal room.

Refood is a community movement that combats food waste and hunger — a project driven by generous, committed people who are available to help others. It was in this spirit that I gave an interactive talk about the power of improvisation , showing how this practice can strengthen listening, collaboration, and adaptability — values that are also at the heart of volunteering.

Amidst laughter, challenges, and improvisational games, the group explored creative forms of communication and connection, rediscovering the joy of being present, available, and open to the unexpected.

“Improvising is learning to say yes to what arises — to ideas, to people, and to moments. It's being ready to build together,” Mário shared during the session.

The result was a fun, engaging, and inspiring experience, where everyone could feel firsthand what it means to create as a team and respond spontaneously and positively to everyday situations.

We thank Refood Barreiro for the invitation and for the incredible work they do in the community. It is always a privilege to bring improvisation to contexts where it can generate real impact — where empathy and creativity meet to transform the world, one gesture at a time .
