André Sobral

A Portuguese improviser, he is a member of the ImprovFX group and performs with various improv companies and projects in Portugal. He is the co-founder and artistic director of the Irreverent Festival — Lisbon International Improv Festival , a space he created to bring the Portuguese improv community closer to artists from around the world, promoting shows, workshops, and multidisciplinary encounters. He is also part of the Ohana European improv network , where he collaborates on international residencies and exchanges.

His journey in improvisation began in 2007, during a European volunteer program in Sweden, through theatre-sports. Since then, he has been exploring various artistic languages — from physical theatre and commedia dell'arte to martial arts, which he also practiced — bringing to the stage an approach rich in body, presence, and listening.

Always driven by a strong sense of community, André believes that improvisation isn't limited to the stage: it's an exercise in mutual acceptance, sharing, and discovery. For him, everyone can improvise—you just need to find the right tools and break free from the rules imposed by society. It's this vision that leads him to build bridges between improvisers and non-improvisers, fostering encounters where ideas, experiences, and adventures transform into collective creation.
